Mystery Housing Development On Belle Isle?

Is it a bird house? A trail map holder? Donation box for Kwame?
Sweet! Dog poop bags! Now, I fully realize that it's ridiculous to celebrate over such a small thing as dog poop bags coming to Belle Isle when unemployment in Detroit is 3042%, the high schools have a .0342% graduation rate, and there are roughly 3,042,000 vacant buildings in the city. Let's just make ridiculous my middle name for today, 'cause this feels like a tiny victory for the forces of good. To me, this says that the Recreation Department folks are giving it their best effort. (They have also been champs  and strong community partners in the "battle for Riverside Park" lately. Read about it at Joel On The Road).
Wanna know how boring I am? After I found that first house at the start of the path to the Lighthouse, I drove all around the island to see if there were more! I found these Waverunner guys...
Boatloads of kayakers practicing..... and 4 more little houses. They are located:
-across from the Beach House
-across the street from the Sunset Point Comfort Station
-along the road just before the Dossin Great Lakes Museum
-at the intersection in the center of the island where the big statue of the guy on the horse stands (General Alpheus Starkey Williams, by the way)

So bring your dog to the island! I have updated my Dog Lover's Guide to Belle Isle to reflect the modernized facilities.

  1. Wow, kind of depressing hearing the statistics of vacant homes in your area, I worry so about folks out of work who've lost their homes, wonder about the economy; hoping it will all slowly but quickly return to some point of, if not properity, at least a head above water status for so many less fortunate than myself.
