Along the Riverwalk at Mt. Elliott Park

Another stop along the Riverwalk is Mt. Elliott Park, at the foot of Mt. Elliott. Once in a while there are people from the nearby lofts in the park, or fishermen, but mostly it's very quiet, even in the summer. (There used to be jazz concerts here in the summer, but I couldn't find any recent references to them.)
There are lovely views of Belle Isle, the bridge, and of downtown's skyline.

The park is bordered by the River Park Lofts, below. The building, originally the Ireland and Matthews Manufacturing Plant, dates from 1898. Everything from saddles to plumbing supplies to chrome parts for cars has been made here.

....and also bordered by the old Detroit Lighthouse Depot (visited in a previous post), and the Coast Guard's Detroit base of operations (behind the Lighthouse Depot).
Between Mt. Elliott Park and Belle Isle is the last remaining unfinished section of the east Riverwalk, but  it's an easy walk along Jefferson from here to the island. The stretch of Jefferson near here is seeing quite a few improvements stemming from the Detroit Economic Growth Association's Jefferson Avenue Retail Readiness program. I see work going on in a few buildings....I'm hoping for a spot with wi-fi to hang out and work on my blog.

  1. Another fine post. Thanks. It would be great if Mount Ellott Park hosted concerts again.
