Ultimate Invisible People Park (Great Dog Park too!)

I work in the suburbs. When I mention taking the dogs to Belle Isle, most of the time the response I get is either "I've never been there", or "I haven't been there in years" (from the older folks). Part of me is really happy that on many days, particularly if the weather's not perfect, I have acres and acres of a Frederick Law Olmsted-designed park all to my self. Another part of me wants to scream and rant about what on earth is wrong with people that they never go to Detroit's version of Central Park.
Belle Isle is amazing. I never tire of walking along the water's edge, seeing the giant freighters, watching flotillas of sailboats, the early morning kayakers, the smell of barbecues in the summer air, the dogs paddling at Hipster Hole. One of the most perfectly Detroit things I can think of to do is watch the sun set over the city skyline. I know it's an overdone photo op...but it's still beautiful, and especially in a certain light it reminds me of the great American landscape painters like Church, Cole, or Innes.
