Some Dogs Dream of Detroit

I have dogs for kids, two of them. Somehow they know when it's the weekend and we're going to Belle Isle to walk. They get up a little earlier. They work a little harder to get me up and out of bed. They practically bring me my tennis shoes and push/pull me out the front door. Once we're in the car, they settle down in the back seat...till we cross the bridge to the island. Then the smart dog starts bouncing from window to window in excitement, whining and coming up to nudge my face with her nose. Does she smell the water? Does she have the turns memorized? The fluffy dog takes longer to figure it out (much longer). His first clue appears to be after I've parked and opened the car door. As the smart one struggles to leap over my shoulder into freedom before I can get the leash on her, the fluffy one slowly gets up and shakes the warm sleepies off. Glimpsing the trees, lake in the distance, he finally waves his tail, like a flag catching the breeze, and we're off.

There's always something different to see along the way. Access Arts' fall outdoor installation was a recent favorite. Also, like all of Detroit, there's plenty of room for more dogs and their people. Aren't you bored just going around the same block all the time? Hint hint.
